second painting, series of 2

This is the second painting, in its first phase.  There are subtle differences between the two paintings.  Each is an exploration of cool grays, with stronger color elements to follow.

abstract gray, finished version, #1 of 2

This is the first phase of two abstract paintings, using gray tones.  In the first phase, I'm laying down high values of grays and whites, going from thin washes to impasto.  I'm using palette knives, a crumbled up piece of paper, and my fingers to apply the paint.

Thermal vent, Yellowstone

The thermal vents in Yellowstone look like something from another planet. Yellowstone Lake nearby was frozen, while the vents were pumping hot, hot steam.

Bison Herd, Yellowstone

This is an oil painting based on a recent trip to Yellowstone. Those bison are enormous. Do they know they are living in perfect landscape country?
